New Star Wars Game ‘Beyond Victory’ Divides Critics and Fans

The galaxy far, far away has a new entry — and it’s already stirring debate. Star Wars: Beyond Victory, the latest release from Industrial Light & Magic and Lucasfilm, has landed to mixed reviews, splitting opinion between critics and fans alike.

The mixed-reality title, exclusive to Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets, currently holds a 54 Metascore from critics — but boasts a 4.2/5 user rating, equivalent to an 82 on Metacritic’s scale, showing a stark divide between media and players.

A Mixed-Reality Star Wars Experience

Developed for Meta’s VR platform, Star Wars: Beyond Victory blends augmented and virtual reality to deliver an interactive Star Wars adventure like never before. With only around a million Quest 3 users worldwide, the game has remained under the radar — but those who’ve tried it are calling it one of the more unique VR experiments in the Star Wars universe.

Three Distinct Modes for Every Fan

The game features three major gameplay modes:

  • Adventure Mode – Play as Volo Bolus, a daring pilot mentored by podracing icon Sebulba. The mode introduces a brand-new, non-canon Star Wars story filled with high-speed races and cinematic missions.
  • Arcade Mode – A nostalgic nod to the Star Wars Episode I: Racer era, offering top-down podracing action on a virtual holotable.
  • Playset Mode – A creative sandbox where fans can build their own Star Wars adventures, complete with digital figures, ships, and interactive environments.

Critical Reception: A Galaxy Divided

While Beyond Victory is topping the Meta Store charts, reviews have been mixed. Critics have taken issue with the limited content depth and short replayability, suggesting that while each mode offers variety, none feel fully developed.

Players, on the other hand, are praising its immersive AR/VR blend, fluid controls, and polished visuals — with many saying it captures the Star Wars magic in a fresh and interactive way.

What the Scores Say

  • Metacritic: 54/100
  • User Score: 4.2/5 (Approx. 82/100)
  • Platform: Meta Quest 3 / Quest 3S
  • Developer: Industrial Light & Magic x Lucasfilm

Verdict

Star Wars: Beyond Victory might not be the next Jedi: Survivor, but it’s a bold and experimental step for the franchise, giving fans a taste of Star Wars through cutting-edge mixed reality. For VR owners, it’s one of the more intriguing exclusives this year — even if it doesn’t quite reach lightspeed.
